Digitally-Manipulated Image

    Digitally-Manipulated Image

The image that I created would work well with kindergarten students as my standard relates to demonstrating growth in the representation of oral language skills. Kindergarten students are the age of starting to develop oral language skills phonological awareness, print awareness, vocabulary, comprehension, and an appreciation for literature. This image engaging and supporting my learning standard SOL, K.2  d) Use words to describe/name location, size, color, and shape because seeing a picture of Peppa family in the car look at a STOP sign can explain all of the standards that I focus on the picture. In addition, I also want students to create and think about what can happen and ask them what are they seeing in the picture and make their own story by looking at the picture by using "Think aloud" strategy.

Students will look at the image hypothetical situation in the picture and students will be able to analyze, describe and remembering location, color, shape, size. For example, in the picture is Peppa pig’s family is driving a car and see a STOP sign, in the STOP sign, has red color, octagon shape, big size, and word STOP meaning stop a car and also the car is on the road, the location is the road. This image is an example of the substitution level of the SAMR model.

UDL concept map

Universal Design for Learning: Chapter 4

Chapter 4 in Universal Design for Leaning primarily dealt with the three principles of UDL:

    - Multiple means of engagement (Why of learning)

    - Multiple means of representation ( What of learning)
    - Multiple means of action and expression ( How of learning)

In my opinion, the " Inspiration program" is an incredible tool for teachers to use for creat and plan the lesson for students. There are so many features that I can choose to fit with in different content to the classroom. I would love for my students to learn and use this program, as I think it would be a valuable way to increase comprehension skills and help them organize their work project information. I believe that the concept map will help the most of visual learner and it will make them understand the lesson easier because it is very easy and enjoyable to use.

The standard I choose

The standard of learning that I want to focus on this semester is English, Kindergarten, K2
I look through the Virginia Department of Education SOLs website and I found the important educational start to young students as Kindergarten is to identify story elements, and communicate ideas through pictures and writing by this standard follow.

K.2 The student will expand understanding and use of word meanings.

 a) Increase listening and speaking vocabularies.

 b) Use the number of words.

 c) Use words to describe/name people, places, and things.

 d) Use words to describe/name location, size, color, and shape.

 e) Use words to describe/name actions.

 f) Ask about words not understood.

 g) Use vocabulary from other content areas.

I chose this standard because of Kindergarten students is the age of starting to develop oral language skills phonological awareness, print awareness, vocabulary, comprehension, and an appreciation for literature. Students will be able to learn to read, remember, analyze and describe the content. The kindergarten students will start to lean in different content such as remembering the alphabet, animals, shape, etc. I am hoping that this standard can be the starting trail of educating young students and help me developing their skills in the classroom.

Kate's classroom cafe - Blog review

After spending time taking a look at education blogs from Google, I found that "Kate's classroom cafe" was stunning of how her creativity was set up on the blog. Kate has been using this blog to share her feelings about organizational tips in her classroom since 2012. She has several of her free and cheap downloadable organization set by "Teachers pay teachers" link in her account.

" Kate's classroom cafe" explains 5 ways to use the classroom window space that she posted in August 2014. I was very interested and impressed me of how easy her tips are. Thus, her tips are innovative because a window space is used to be apart of education in the classroom. For example, she writes Learning Goals, Assignment, and General Announcement on her classroom widow to communicate with her students.she also utilizes Concept Mapping which is used for her science class to display her students' ideas. Moreover, I also found that her blogs also talk about technology in the class. It is posted by the name "I'm NOT going paperless in my classroom. Here's Why..." In this blog, she describes and believes how technology can have negative effect on her students' learning abilities, while some technology is still effective in her classroom. For example, she offered her students a choice of digital project or paper poster-style project. She realized that most of her students asked for the paper project style because students were using so much of day to day screen times and the paper project was more excited and enjoyable. Therefore, she decided to use 30% or less of screen times during her class each week.

In my opinion, I personally prefer to take handwritten note, paper-posting and group project the old fashioned way because it improve my comprehension and cognitive processing of materials. I believe these methods will help students not only remember, but also improve learning. On the other hand, the option of technology methods is increasing and impact students live. I believe students should be giving an opportunity to learn technology in the classroom but also utilize paper project methods as well to provide a versatility style of learning. Not every classes or activity should involve digital screens but students should be given the opportunity to learn these methods effectively.

"Teddy Bears Go Blogging"

"Teddy Bears Go Blogging" written by Brenda Sherry is such a very interesting article about how to communicate with students and teachers by using the blog. I think this idea is a very creative use for technology, penpal 2.0. The project opened my eyes and impressed me of how the blog can be technological tools to motivate students, to write and allow students from different countries to connect them together, and also educate them at the same time.

This is something I would visualize and incorporate into my classroom. As the article said, the blog can be used to express students in a positive reflection, where they can learn a variety of new skills such as editing, uploading pictures or recording messages, etc. Furthermore, students will learn how to form friendships with other people from different cultures as the blog can be published on the Website, where parents and relatives can approach and leave comments. This can motivate students to be successful and more confident inside/outside the classroom as well as their home.

In today's society, young children are developing a sense of initiative and creativity. We often see early school-aged year children begin to use the tools of their society with qualification. I'm just considering if this can be used with Kindergarten students? They may be too young and not be able to write their own blogs but as today we've seen a lot of kids use technology tools such as iPad, tablet, Internet, etc. What if we use these ideas by using pictures, video recordings, and other communicational methods with classmates? Would they be able to comprehend and enjoy the activity and connection in the association? In my opinion, it would be valuable if we can possibly use this technology to educate students to improve their skills.

I believe that blogging can not only improve teaching but also make learning effective and motivational for students, which can beneficial and positive for the growth of children. Digital technology increasingly becomes effective tools for children and adults to use in their work and home lives. Opening these young student eyes to the technology world can serve as a positive outcome.
